About me

I’m Louisa, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and owner of Hot Coffee Therapy in Durham, North Carolina. Prior to Hot Coffee Therapy, most of my career was spent working as a social worker in the medical field. I’ve been passionate about family well-being and particularly maternal mental health since my graduate school internship in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. My most recent role prior to private practice was in pediatric hospice and palliative care. I’m well versed in being a calm presence in tumultuous times.

Education

Masters in Social Work- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2014

Bachelor of Arts in Human Service Studies- Elon University, 2008

I’m actively pursuing certification in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International. I’m a bit of a continuing education nerd and love figuring out my next class or conference to ensure I have the best information to support you.

Outside of work

I spend most of my time with my family. My hobbies include gardening and planning our next adventure- be that just to the park or to a new country. While my practice is named after coffee and a nod to the nearly universal appeal of getting to enjoy coffee while it is still warm (especially for parents,) my own hot beverage of choice is actually black tea.
